Heat deaths in Europe may triple by end of the century, study finds
Briefly

A study published in the Lancet Public Health warns that heat-related deaths in Europe could triple by the century's end, particularly in Southern regions like Italy, Greece, and Spain.
The authors indicate that even if the global warming target of 1.5C is met, heat-related deaths could rise to 129,000 annually, alongside a slight decline in cold-related deaths.
David Garcia-Leon emphasized that despite arguments claiming fewer deaths from cold due to climate change, the increasing heat-related deaths will significantly outweigh any decline in winter fatalities.
The rising temperatures will present unprecedented challenges to public health systems, as the projected death toll from heat and cold combined might rise to 450,000 people by 2100.
