After more than a decade in development, Sierra Space's 'Dream Chaser' - which can land horizontally on a runway like a traditional aircraft - has completed testing. The craft will make its maiden trip to the International Space Station (ISS) in low Earth-orbit later this year, carrying over 7,800 pounds (3,540 kilograms) of cargo.
According to Sierra Space, Dream Chaser has just completed 'rigorous' tests at NASA's Neil Armstrong Test Facility in Sandusky, Ohio, including intense vibration and shock tests that simulate launch conditions and extreme temperature exposure like that in space. Sierra Space CEO Tom Vice stated, 'This is the year that we transition from rigorous research and development to regular orbital operations...'
