The world has just experienced the first full year in which global temperatures exceeded 1.5C above pre-industrial times, marking a significant climate milestone according to C3S.
C3S director Carlo Buontempo described how every month in 2024 was the warmest or second-warmest for that month since records began, illustrating the alarming trajectory of rising temperatures.
Samantha Burgess highlighted that the primary reason behind record temperatures is the accumulation of greenhouse gases from the burning of fossil fuels, impacting the planet drastically.
The last decade was confirmed as the hottest on record, with scientists stating these conditions are likely unprecedented in the past 125,000 years.
