The luxury superyacht Bayesian sank off the coast of Sicily, with six people missing, including tech tycoon Mike Lynch and his daughter, after a waterspout struck.
Mike Lynch, who had recently been acquitted of fraud charges in a US trial regarding HP's $11 billion acquisition of Autonomy, was celebrating with guests aboard the yacht.
Rescue efforts are complicated by the depth of the wreck, 50 meters underwater, requiring divers to operate under strict time limits due to the conditions and cramped space.
While 15 passengers were rescued, the tragedy unfolded during a party for Lynch, often likened to Britain’s Bill Gates, with the yacht struck by a sudden tornado.
