August 29: ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY
Briefly

According to the twelfth census, the forest products of the United States have an annual value of $575,000,000, aside from the value of firewood and farm materials.
The forests have an immense value, both as a source of future supply and as a protective covering for water sheds, possibly surpassing mineral wealth in the future.
Careful and scientific woodman-craft and lumbering, coupled with energetic reforestation, are preserving and will continue to preserve the forest values indefinitely.
The best promise of continued success in forestry work is the interest now taken by the lumbermen, who have realized the importance of reforestation.
