Astronaut Insists the Mushrooms He's Growing in Space Are "Not the Ones You're Thinking"
Briefly

The Fram2 mission, a pioneering private civilian flight led by crypto billionaire Chun Wang and explorer Eric Philips, launched on March 31 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. This unique four-person team is set to conduct various scientific experiments, including cultivating oyster mushrooms in space, a project dubbed "Mission MushVroom" by FOODiQ Global. The experiment aims to explore the feasibility of growing this nutritious crop in orbit, which could be advantageous for long-term space missions to planets like Mars, addressing future food sustainability in extraterrestrial environments.
In an op-ed for Business Insider, FOODiQ founder Flávia Fayet-Moore said that she identified mushrooms as an ideal in-orbit crop, particularly for years-long missions to Mars and other planets.
Philips noted that they're not growing the mushrooms you're thinking of. Instead, they aim to cultivate oyster mushrooms, which offer numerous nutritional benefits.
