According to a new study from American psychologists published in the journal Science, a conversational approach with a chatbot, called 'debunkbot', effectively reduces confidence among conspiracy believers.
The study indicated that participants in discussions with 'debunkbot' experienced a 20% reduction in their conviction toward various conspiracy theories, with effects lasting for at least two months.
By using a specially developed conversational platform, the researchers demonstrated that even deeply ingrained beliefs in conspiracy theories can be challenged and diminished through structured dialogue.
The platform's effectiveness was validated across two experiments with over 3,000 participants, reflecting a significant shift in the conviction of fringe theory believers.
