Over a six-year period, researchers netted 11 catfish from the lower Thames River near Tillbury, including juveniles indicating successful reproduction, a first in Canada.
"I think that very likely climate change is part of it," said Nicholas Mandrak, a University of Toronto professor, suggesting warming waters enable catfish survival in Canada.
Flathead catfish, which can weigh up to 110 pounds, have a massive appetite for meat, posing potential threats in the Thames River as they move north.
