The article emphasizes the importance of industry associations for bus and motorcoach operators, highlighting how they work to improve services and safety within the transportation sector. It addresses the puzzling lack of interest from many operators in joining these groups, which are vital for advocacy and education regarding regulatory challenges such as CARB. The Bus Industry Safety Council is noted for its focus on safety best practices, and the article encourages participation in both national and regional associations, underscoring the collective effort required to ensure the industry remains profitable and secure.
What puzzles me as a long-term industry member, is the number of companies and motorcoach operators who have no interest in joining a bus industry group or association.
Even our friends to the north of the U.S. have associations, such as the Ontario Motor Coach Association (OMCA). If you can't make a meeting in the U.S., plan a trip to Canada and attend an OMCA event.
The Bus Industry Safety Council focuses on best safety practices and industry rulings regarding safety, often featuring industry safety experts who share important messages.
These past few years, however, all the national associations banded to educate their members regarding CARB, seen as a threat to our industry.
