2,000 free instruments given to North Carolina hurricane victims
Briefly

On March 9, a charity drive at Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, NC, provided more than 2,000 musical instruments to victims of Hurricane Helene. Organized by WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour, the initiative involved collecting instruments over several months. Host Michael Johnathon highlighted the significance of music in supporting the community. On the distribution day, more than 1,600 instruments were available, bolstered by additional donations. The event aimed to assist Western NC and Eastern TN residents, focusing on continuous relief efforts even after the hurricane's impact diminished.
We haven't forgotten the situation of folks affected by Helene. You are the comfortable rocking chair of America's musical front porch. So many people donated violins, guitars, cellos, banjos, trumpets, and more. The response has been phenomenal.
The event served as Johnathon's third instrument drive, and while it was intended to help Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee residents in particular, no recipients were required to provide proof of residence or additional information.
Following Sunday, the organizers announced that all of the donated gear had ultimately found a home.
Even months after Hurricane Helene has subsided, relief efforts in affected areas continue to be of incredible importance.
