Marcus Stroman's up-and-down season leaves playoff role in the air
Briefly

Stroman has pitched to fine surface numbers this year, it hasn't been consistent. Considering his current pitching profile, it's hard to imagine the Yankees postseason rotation aided tremendously by Stroman's presence.
Stroman is known for being a groundball pitcher. He has operated that way for his entire career, which has made him successful at the MLB level.
In 148.1 IP this season, Stroman sits with a 4.07 ERA, though his underlying numbers don't help his case much. A 4.56 xFIP and 4.87 xERA are evidence of Stroman's issues this year.
After signing with the Yankees in the offseason, the expectations for the 33-year-old righty were reasonable: try to keep the ERA under 4.00, and give the team consistent production every fifth day.
