Back in 1999, interleague play was still a bit of a novelty; not only was it just its third season, the 1999 season was the first of the "three weeks in June" style of interleague play that persisted until the Houston Astros joined the American League in 2013.
A Yankees-Phillies series dominated by home crowd advantage: Phillies swept at Veterans Stadium in 1997, Yankees took all three at the Bronx in 1998.
Andy Pettitte, hero of 2009 World Series, faced challenges in 1999. Doug Glanville led off game against Pettitte, Phillies took an early 2-0 lead.
