The podcast 'Live From the Blue Seats' discusses key issues in the Rangers organization, including Peter Laviolette's dismissal, Chris Drury's contract extension, and the potential hiring of Mike Sullivan as head coach. While both hosts agree that Laviolette's firing was justified, they assert that the teamâs struggles shouldn't be solely attributed to him. They also focus on the challenge Drury faces in communicating effectively with younger players, suggesting that a different leadership approach is necessary to meet the needs of the evolving team dynamics.
Live From the Blue Seats is back as Dave and Producer JL talk Peter Laviolette's dismissal, Chris Drury's extension, and Mike Sullivan as the next Rangers head coach. Holding firm, both Dave and JL think Laviolette's dismissal was needed, but this lost season wasn't on him. He didn't help himself though. Neither did Drury, who got himself an extension instead. Though Sullivan is a big win for the Rangers (and John Tortorella if that happens), there's a lot of work to be done.
Mika Zibanejad's comments on breakup day revealed he struggled with mental health early on. Perhaps Chris Drury needs to use a different communication method to address younger generations that don't respond well to the hardass approach.
The best leaders adjust their methods to the individual, and this is a glaring weakness for Drury as players get younger and prefer a more even-keeled approach.
It will be interesting to see how Sullivan's approachâand Tortorella'sâadjusts as he takes over a team that certainly needs a kick in the rear.
