The Mets reached agreement with the veteran first baseman on a one-year, $20.5 million contract to avoid arbitration on Thursday, according to ESPN.
Alonso will hit free agency following the 2024 season. The 29-year-old, who is entering his sixth season in the majors, all with the Mets, has a career average of .251 with 192 homers and 498 RBIs, including a career-high 53 in 2019. Alonso hit just .217 last season but belted 46 homers and 118 RBIs.
