J.D. Martinez, the slugger signed by the New York Mets, has been kept from playing due to a bad back. He will play for the Syracuse Mets in preparation for joining the major league club.
Martinez, a 13-year MLB veteran, is scheduled to fly north and be the designated hitter for the Syracuse Mets in two games before potentially joining the New York Mets against the St. Louis Cardinals.
