NBA: Knicks name Jalen Brunson 36th team captain in franchise history, first since 2018
Briefly

The New York Knicks have a deep and storied history and today we are immensely proud to add to that lineage by naming Jalen Brunson as our captain. Jalen is a natural born leader, and I am confident he will continue to represent our organization, fans, city, and his teammates with the same heart, grit and class that he has displayed each and every day since he came to New York.
It's a role he served in theory last season that he will now serve in practice, and a well-deserved distinction for a player whose shoulders the Knicks' championship aspirations squarely rest.
Brunson helped crystallize those title hopes by taking a pay cut this offseason: Instead of waiting until the summer of 2025 to sign a potential super max contract worth just under $270 million, Brunson left $113 million on the table and signed a four-year, $156.5 million extension in July.
