NBA commissioner Adam Silver suggested shortening NBA games from 48 to 40 minutes by changing quarters from 12 to 10 minutes. He believes this aligns better with modern viewer preferences, as other leagues like college and Olympic basketball already use this format. Although this change could help with player rest and manage their minutes, it has met resistance from some coaches who are concerned about the implications for historical records and statistics in the game.
As we get more involved in global basketball, the NBA is the only league that plays 48 minutes. And I would be a fan of four 10-minute quarters.
Incidentally, if you went to a 40-minute game, with the minutes around load management and resting, it would be the equivalent of-I don't know the exact math-taking, like, 15 games off the season.
