Hooters closes Long Island's only location, in Farmingdale
"I was completely taken back and completely in shock,"
"It was just a gut-wrenching sucker punch to tell everyone that we're closed,"
"I felt devastated having to call my management teams and other staff members to tell them that we're closed and that nobody has a job anymore,"
The Hooters restaurant on Route 110 in Farmingdale closed without warning, with franchise management notifying local leadership early Monday morning. The Farmingdale location was franchise-owned and was one of only three Hooters locations in New York State. The restaurant employed more than 20 people who lost their jobs due to the abrupt closure. Sales at the location had been slowing for about a year except for spikes during the Super Bowl. National corporate closures followed a bankruptcy filing last year, while previous Long Island locations closed in 2012 and 2013 after failed rebranding efforts.
