"The age of digital assets is here, and with it comes the chance to grow our economy, attract world-class talent, expand opportunities for underbanked communities, and make government more user-friendly,"
"Remember y'all laughed at me when I first got my Bitcoin? Who's laughing now?"
New York City established the Office of Digital Assets and Blockchain via Executive Order 57 as the nation's first city-level crypto and blockchain office. The office will promote responsible use of digital assets and blockchain technologies, stimulate economic opportunities for city residents, attract world-class talent, and make government more user-friendly. Moises Rendon was appointed executive director and will form a commission of digital asset executives to oversee the office's activities. Mayor Eric Adams embraced cryptocurrency by taking his first three paychecks in Bitcoin and Ethereum and reported Bitcoin holdings between $5,000 and $54,999 at the end of 2023.
