Mayor Adams emphasized the city’s commitment to eliminating illegal cannabis by stating, 'We’re going to destroy illegal cannabis in this city,' during his visit to a Long Island incinerator.
With a focus on destruction and safety, Adams explained, 'You place it in a landfill, you just really open the door to people going to the landfills and trying to salvage whatever they can.'
The city inspected over 4,000 smoke shops and shut down more than 1,000 illegal operations, showcasing a significant effort in combating unlicensed cannabis sales.
Adams noted, 'The goal is the destruction of the product and not just to dump it somewhere,' highlighting the importance of preventing illegal cannabis from re-entering the community.
