Harvey Weinstein's 2020 conviction on felony sex crime charges in New York was overturned, leading to the possibility of a new trial, as the Manhattan district attorney's office is committed to retrying the case.
The New York Court of Appeals decision to overturn the conviction was based on the ruling that the trial judge erred in allowing witnesses whose accusations weren't directly related to the charges faced by Weinstein.
Weinstein, currently serving time in upstate New York, was transferred to Rikers Island jail complex following the overturning of his conviction and is also facing additional prison time in California for a separate conviction of raping an Italian actress.
