"The Times Square New Year's Eve celebrations will kick off at 6 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Dec. 31, and the New Year's Eve ball will be raised to the top of the pole at One Times Square. At exactly 11:59 p.m. ET, the ball will make its 60-second descent down the flagpole to signal the start of the new year."
"New Year's Eve celebrations at Times Square have been held for 122 years, "ever since the owners of One Times Square began in 1904 to conduct rooftop celebrations to greet the New Year," Times Square's website says. In addition to the confetti, Times Square will also host its famous ball drop on New Year's Eve as well as musical performances by artists including B.o.B, Tones and I, Xavi, Robyn and Diana Ross, among others."
Countdown to 2026 is underway with Times Square preparing for New Year's Eve celebrations. A confetti test was conducted Dec. 29 from the Planet Fitness Center Stage to check airworthiness ahead of the midnight release. Three thousand pounds of confetti will be released at midnight and will include thousands of wishes submitted at the New Year's Eve Wishing Wall and via the Virtual Wishing Wall between Dec. 1 and Dec. 29. Events begin at 6 p.m. ET on Dec. 31, with the Constellation Ball raised atop One Times Square and a 60-second descent at 11:59 p.m. Live musical performances will accompany the ball drop. Times Square New Year's Eve celebrations trace back 122 years to rooftop festivities beginning in 1904.
