"I'll believe it when I see it," said a resident who described the asphalt aroma as a combination of "burning tires" and "straight chemical waste," indicating widespread skepticism regarding the promised odor relief.
"Our air quality is not that great. We know what it is and I, from having worked in that area, would see some mornings that there's s-t going up in the sky," a Greenpoint resident expressed concern over local air pollution.
The activity at the Green Asphalt plant, despite being the first 100% recycled asphalt facility, has led to numerous complaints, with over 200 residents reporting issues to local officials.
Assembly member Emily Gallagher mentioned that adjustments to the flumes at the Long Island City facility are expected to eliminate the so-called 'Greenpoint Stink' by mid-2025, but skepticism remains among residents.
