Akif Mushtaq, 42, died from wounds after an alleged pit bull attack in Stratford, leading to an inquest regarding the circumstances of his death.
The coroner, Graeme Irvine, stated that due to the unnatural and violent nature of Mushtaq's injuries, a thorough investigation including an autopsy was necessary.
Mushtaq's cause of death was determined to be multiple organ failure and hypoxic brain injury following severe puncture wounds to his neck and throat.
The inquest may be delayed pending a criminal investigation, with Mr Mushtaq's family and the IOPC being declared interested parties by the coroner.
