Staten Island driver charged in fatal hit-and-run takes offer from Brooklyn judge, case ongoing
"Last week, Joshi pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a crash involving injury, as part of a plea deal extended by Judge Christopher J. Robles in Brooklyn state Supreme Court. In exchange for his plea, the defendant was placed on one year of probation. He'll also have to complete Circles for Safe Streets, an intensive driver's accountability course. If the court determines he's performed well in those programs, and he avoids future run-ins with law enforcement, the case could be considered resolved."
"The crash occurred on the night of Nov. 16, 2023, near Marine Avenue and 96th Street, according to a criminal complaint. An investigation by the NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad determined that Joshi was operating a black sedan about 12 mph over the marked speed limit, authorities said. Prosecutors noted the victim had crossed the street from between two parked cars, outside of a crosswalk and against the closest traffic light."
Joshua Joshi, 35, of New Springville was initially indicted on felony charges in connection with a 2023 Bay Ridge hit-and-run that killed 72-year-old Anne-Marie Wiesner. He pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a crash involving injury and received one year of probation along with mandatory completion of Circles for Safe Streets, an intensive driver's accountability course. The court may consider the case resolved if he completes programs and avoids future legal trouble; otherwise Judge Christopher J. Robles could impose jail time. Investigators determined Joshi was speeding about 12 mph over the limit; the victim crossed outside a crosswalk and he fled to Staten Island.
