Shelter Island Woman Charged With Felony DWI After Crashing Into Police Car: PD
"SHELTER ISLAND, NY - A Shelter Island woman was arrested and charged with felony driving while intoxicated after crashing into a police vehicle Saturday night, authorities said. According to Shelter Island police, the incident took place at 9:58 p.m. on South Ferry Road on Shelter Island. Mayelin E. Pacheco-Silverio, 30, was involved in a motor vehicle collision with a marked Shelter Island police vehicle that was assisting with an investigation on South Ferry Road, police said."
"Subsequent to field sobriety testing, it was determined that Pacheco-Silverio, who struck the police vehicle, was intoxicated, police said. Further inquiry revealed that Pacheco-Silverio was operating the vehicle with a suspended New York State driver's license and was found to be in possession of metal knuckles, a weapon as defined under New York State penal law, police said. No injuries were reported, police said."
"In accordance with the Suffolk County's DWI Seizure Law, the vehicle was impounded as a result of a prior DWI conviction, police said. Pacheco-Silverio was arrested, charged with felony DWI due to a previous conviction within 10 years; possessing alcohol-cannabis in a motor vehicle; third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor; fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon;"
A 30-year-old Shelter Island resident, Mayelin E. Pacheco-Silverio, crashed into a marked Shelter Island police vehicle at 9:58 p.m. on South Ferry Road while the police vehicle was assisting an investigation. Field sobriety testing determined that Pacheco-Silverio was intoxicated. Officers found she was driving with a suspended New York State driver's license and in possession of metal knuckles, a weapon under New York Penal Law. No injuries were reported. The vehicle was impounded under Suffolk County's DWI Seizure Law due to a prior DWI conviction. Pacheco-Silverio was arrested and charged with felony DWI and related offenses, held overnight, arraigned, released on her own recognizance, and ordered to return to court.
