On Sunday evening, a confrontation at a Sunnyside fruit stand escalated violently when a vendor woke Niser Cekic, who then stabbed him multiple times. After the attack, the vendor was sent to Elmhurst Hospital and is in stable condition.
Cekic, 47, an individual with 23 previous arrests, showed a violent reaction after being confronted while sleeping adjacent to the fruit stand. He was apprehended shortly after the incident.
The police recovered the knife used in the attack at the scene, and Cekic was caught nearby waiting for a bus with numerous charges pending including attempted murder and assault.
