Richmond Hill, Queens e-bike shop catches fire for 2nd time, FDNY says
Briefly

Investigators suspect the fire started at around 2:30 a.m. when a lithium-ion battery exploded at the shop on Jamaica Avenue in the Richmond Hill section.
FDNY Deputy Chief George Healy stated, 'This is not the first incident at this particular establishment...It was very similar.' He noted the shop operates under city laws.
The FDNY reported that over 100 lithium-ion battery fires have been investigated in 2024, resulting in at least 50 injuries and several fatalities.
Gov. Kathy Hochul has signed legislation aimed at addressing the risks posed by lithium-ion batteries following a series of dangerous incidents.
