Province breaks ground on 3 Ontario Line stations in Toronto | CBC News
Briefly

The stations we're breaking ground on today will help tackle gridlock, reduce commute times and connect tens of thousands of commuters to homes and good-paying jobs each and every day." said Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria in a news release Wednesday. He emphasized the importance of this development as the population continues to grow and the necessity of moving people quickly and safely in a bustling city like Toronto.
The King-Bathurst Station will eventually see more than 5,000 transfers during the morning rush hour alone. It will also connect commuters using the 504 King and 511 Bathurst streetcars to the Ontario Line, enhancing accessibility across the transportation network and alleviating streetcar crowding significantly.
The province said the Ontario Line is expected to help reduce crowding on Line 1 Yonge-University by roughly 15 per cent and will help reduce crowding at Union Station by 14 per cent. With an estimated 400,000 transit riders daily, this project addresses critical transit needs in the urban framework.
Construction crews began work on the Ontario Line, which involves extensive underground work, including removing soil and bedrock to create up to 40-metre deep stations. The integration of tunnel boring machines will connect essential transit hubs through the downtown stretch, marking a significant advancement in Toronto's transit infrastructure.
