"This is having a negative impact and a negative focus on the plaza," said Matt Mahoney, deputy mayor of Mississauga. "Families don't want to go there, they don't want to bring their kids there. This has to stop."
Ridgeway Plaza can draw as many as 5,000 to 6,000 people at a time, Const. Tyler Bell noted, emphasizing the plaza's deep ties to the surrounding residential areas.
Peel police mentioned, "We're only a few hours into the Strategic Enforcement Operation, and it's been a very busy night. 40+ Traffic Stops & even more charges laid."
By midnight Friday, police had made over 40 traffic stops and laid "even more charges," with multiple vehicles impounded and disruptive crowds dispersed.
