Leon Howell, a 43-year-old parolee with 20 prior arrests, was arrested for attempting to rape and rob a 51-year-old woman in Downtown Brooklyn. Posing as an immigration officer, he assaulted the woman in a building basement, leading to serious injuries. Howell was tracked down through the victim's stolen iPhone by the police. He had been paroled just a month earlier after a strangulation incident and now faces serious charges including first-degree rape and robbery, raising questions about public safety and repeat offenders.
The vicious attacker grabbed the woman's chain, cellphone and purse before fleeing on Montague Street toward Henry Street, cops said.
Howell, who was just paroled last month in connection to the 2017 strangulation of a stranger in Brooklyn, was charged with first-degree rape.
