A for-hire driver, whose vehicle had a fraudulent license plate and a history of unpaid fines, led police on a high-speed chase through the Queens-Midtown Tunnel, ultimately resulting in a collision.
Officers initiated a traffic stop during a special operation targeting "ghost plates," but the driver fled into the tunnel. Officers managed to box him in, ending the pursuit.
The driver, identified as a 33-year-old Bronx resident, faces several charges including assaulting a police officer and reckless endangerment, after putting three passengers at risk.
Despite the dangerous situation, the three women passengers experienced only minor injuries. Their medical appointment ride turned into a chaotic police pursuit.
