More than a dozen people hospitalized after smoke fills NYC subway station: FDNY
Briefly

On Tuesday afternoon, a smoke condition in the No. 1 subway station at 191st Street and St. Nicholas Avenue led to the hospitalization of 18 people due to smoke inhalation. The FDNY responded with 12 units and 60 personnel, managing to control the situation within an hour. Eyewitness reports indicate the smoke likely originated from an electrical fire. The subway service was disrupted between 215th and 145th streets, but a nearby tunnel allowed for a safe evacuation, preventing a more serious emergency.
All of a sudden, the electrical socket exploded and turned into fire, filling that side of the station with smoke, and it was heading in our direction.
Luckily, the station has a tunnel that leads us outside to Broadway. If we did not have the tunnel, most likely most of us would have suffocated.
