Genaro Garcia Luna, once a top law enforcement official in Mexico, has been sentenced to over 38 years in prison for taking bribes from drug cartels.
Judge Brian M. Cogan condemned Garcia Luna's dual life, stating that under the guise of a top lawman, he caused harm to many Mexicans.
Comparing Garcia Luna to El Chapo, Judge Cogan noted that despite their differences, both exhibited a similar thuggishness in their actions.
Despite his sentencing, Garcia Luna maintained his innocence, asserting that he had not committed any of the crimes he was convicted of.
