A second migrant, a 59-year-old man who had only arrived at the shelter a week earlier, was caught in the crossfire and is listed in critical condition on Monday morning.
No charges have been filed in the incident. Cops are now trying to determine if the shooting was linked to the notorious Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, which has established a foothold in the Big Apple, the sources said.
Investigators said the vicious gang has recruited scooter-riding armed thugs who have terrorized the city with snatch-and-run robberies and violent assaults throughout the five boroughs.
