A deadly stabbing occurred at the 14th Street station in Chelsea on July 19 when a dispute escalated violently. An unidentified man stabbed a 24-year-old in the torso, after which the victim and a friend pursued him, successfully wrestling the knife away. In the ensuing struggle, the victim stabbed the attacker in the chest. Police arrived to find all three men at the scene. The unidentified man died later at Bellevue Hospital, while the 24-year-old expects recovery from his injuries. No charges have been filed against the two questioned men, and transit crime is reportedly down overall.
The bloodshed unfolded inside the 14th Street station on the 1/2/3 lines near 7th Avenue in Chelsea at around 7 p.m. on July 19.
Authorities stated that the unidentified man pulled out a sharp object and stabbed a 24-year-old man in the torso; the suspect then took off.
One of the pair then stabbed the unidentified man in the chest with his own weapon.
Police sources said the injured man and his 20-year-old friend chased down the unidentified man and wrested the knife away from his hands.
