The incident occurred when Mr. Kelly put dishes in Clarke's room, leading to a physical altercation where Clarke stabbed him several times. Despite the wounds, Mr. Kelly managed to get away and call emergency services.
Clarke's defense attorney highlighted that Mr. Kelly's behavior was provocative, as he ignored warnings, threw dishes on Clarke's bed, and only after being repeatedly provoked did Clarke respond with the knife in self-defense.
