A man was viciously stabbed to death in a Queens bodega over a disputed wallet, highlighting ongoing safety concerns in small NYC stores.
"Bodegas are not equipped to save lives, and that must change," states Fernando Matero of the United Bodegas of America, declaring a state of emergency.
"Selling eggs, milk, and beer is 65% of what we do. The other 35% is helping our community and helping the NYPD solve crimes," adds Mateo, emphasizing bodegas' community role.
Local residents express safety fears, with one woman highlighting concerns for raising children in the area due to incidents like the fatal stabbing at Sammy's Gourmet Deli.
