Man arrested for stealing car with 72-year-old man in backseat
"A man was arrested Monday for stealing a car in Queens and kidnapping the 72-year-old man sitting in the backseat, cops said. The victim was waiting in the backseat of an idling 2016 Subaru near 44th Drive and 23rd St. in Long Island City when the thief hopped in the driver's seat and sped off around 7:13 p.m. on Jan. 17, police said."
"The suspect abandoned the car and his unwilling passenger about two miles away in Maspeth a short time later, according to law enforcement. Police arrested 30-year-old Dominic Kanin about two weeks after the NYPD released MTA surveillance footage of a suspect. He is charged with grand larceny, kidnapping, unauthorized use of a vehicle and unlawful imprisonment, cops said. Kanin, who lives in the Cambria Heights neighborhood of Queens, has no prior criminal history, according to law enforcement."
