NEWARK James Ray III, a lawyer and former New York City police officer, was convicted on Friday of killing his girlfriend of nine years in the home they shared in an affluent suburb of New Jersey.The jury verdict came after just a few hours of deliberation, more than four years after Mr. Ray fired the fatal gunshots in his six-bedroom home in Montclair, a commuter town about 20 miles west of Manhattan.
