On Monday night in Hawthorne, a man was gunned down while leaving a liquor store, but investigators do not believe he was an intended target. Authorities stated that the shooting occurred just before 9:30 p.m. when the victim, a local resident, was shot while walking through a group of people outside South Liquor Bank. The incident is believed to be gang-related, yet the victim had no gang ties and was simply an innocent bystander.
Lt. Steven De Jong of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department confirmed that one suspect is in custody while investigators are searching for at least two others. The shooting, which happened in a crowded parking lot, was captured on surveillance video. The chaotic scene set off a short police pursuit of the vehicle used by the suspects but ended with the arrest of the driver, while the other two suspects managed to escape.
