Bus lane upgrades will be installed on Lexington Avenue between E. 60th Street and E. 52nd Street. Existing curbside bus lanes on eight blocks will shift to become offset bus lanes under a DOT redesign plan. Offset bus lanes are intended to keep lanes clear and maintain bus movement. The corridor carries about 71,000 bus trips per day, including local buses and express routes from the Bronx and Staten Island. DOT previously implemented similar changes on Lexington Avenue from E. 96th Street to E. 60th Street in 2019. That work reportedly increased bus speeds by 26 percent and reduced pedestrian injuries by 35 percent.
