'False fall' is in the air in NYC, with highs in the 80s expected into next week
""We are starting to see a little bit of a tease of fall here with temperatures the last few days, topping out in the 60s, which is around where we should be for early October,""
""False fall" has returned to NYC,""
"Temperatures won't have that fall feeling again until Thursday or so, when a cold front will push them back down into the 60s."
"Large swaths of New York and all of New Jersey are under a drought watch from persistent dry conditions. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has issued a temporary burn ban to reduce wildfire risks, and both she and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy are urging residents to conserve water."
Highs will be in the low 70s Friday, then rise into the low 80s over the weekend and remain in the upper 70s next week, running roughly 10 to 15 degrees above normal. Temperatures briefly topped out in the 60s earlier, offering a short-lived taste of fall before warming resumes. A cold front is expected around Thursday to return highs to the 60s, with a chance of rain toward the middle of next week but mostly sunny conditions otherwise. Large parts of New York and all of New Jersey are under a drought watch, prompting a temporary burn ban and calls to conserve water, and NOAA indicates the region could see a warmer-than-usual fall overall.
