Edgar Giovanny Oviedo, a 16-year-old San Diego boy, was involved in a police pursuit that resulted in a crash, killing Officer Austin Machitar.
Police initiated a short pursuit of Oviedo after he sped on Clairemont Boulevard. The chase was called off due to dangerous speeds.
Officer Machitar, 30, died in the fiery crash that followed, while his partner, Officer Martinez, suffered critical injuries.
Family members reported Oviedo had simply gone out to pick up food, highlighting the tragic turn of events.
