Westchester County health officials are urging two good Samaritans who dropped off a rabid cat at an animal hospital to come forward, concerned they may now be infected.
Health Commissioner Dr. Sherlita Amler emphasized, "Rabies is fatal, but it is also 100% preventable with post-exposure treatment," highlighting the importance of timely medical intervention.
The anonymous pair, caught on surveillance, helped the cat after it was possibly struck by a car but left without providing their identities, potentially endangering themselves.
The situation highlights that about 60,000 people in the U.S. seek treatment annually after exposure to rabid animals, stressing the need for cautious interactions.
