The heavy flooding rose to hip height in some places as emergency responders helped one driver to safety from a flooded vehicle, affecting nearby buildings.
Jessica Acea, whose pets were rescued by firefighters, described the urgency of the situation: "Firemen came because I was screaming at them... they really rescued them."
The reason behind the 48-inch water main burst, which occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Monday, is still under investigation as residents assess the damage.
Once the water was shut off, cleanup began promptly, with city officials coordinating efforts to clear mud and debris from the affected Webster Avenue area.
