Brute bashes elderly straphanger in the head with golf club in random subway attack
Briefly

A disturbing incident occurred in the subway system where a 66-year-old woman was randomly assaulted by a masked attacker using a golf club at the Cortlandt Street R/W station. The assault left the woman injured with a head gash, and she was subsequently admitted to a local hospital in stable condition. The assailant fled the scene with the weapon, and police, who have not yet made any arrests, released video footage of the suspect in hopes of gathering public assistance for identification.
The victim, 66, was standing by the turnstiles at the Cortlandt Street R/W subway station in the Financial District around 7:30 a.m. Friday when the masked brute clobbered her with what appeared to be a fairway wood, leaving a gash on the left side of her head.
The perp then ran off, taking his golf club with him, according to cops. No words were exchanged between the woman and her attacker, authorities said.
The senior was taken to New York Downtown Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition. Police have yet to make any arrests.
The NYPD released video footage of the suspect Saturday, and asked the public for any information to help identify him.
