Jamel McGriff was apprehended in Midtown Manhattan after being spotted by officers and reportedly using the victims' credit cards in Times Square. A citywide manhunt followed after McGriff allegedly knocked on Frank and Maureen Olton's Bellerose, Queens door to charge his phone, then a fire engulfed their home around 3:20 p.m. on Sept. 8. Firefighters found both seniors dead; police say McGriff allegedly tortured the 77- and 78-year-olds for five hours and set fires to their bodies. Surveillance footage and a positive identification by his parole officer linked McGriff to the killing. McGriff had been on parole for a 2006 first-degree robbery conviction and failed to register after serving over 16 years.
