Charles Mwangi described the past five years as 'mental torture,' citing bureaucratic hurdles and sleepless nights leading to his near-deportation from Canada to Kenya.
Upon receiving the news that his deportation order was cancelled, Mwangi stated, 'I have experienced that torture for five years, then [Saturday] was the greatest day that I had ever seen something good in Canada.'
Mwangi expressed gratitude but questioned, 'Why all this denial?' after years of suffering and uncertainty, despite having made multiple appeals for asylum.
Despite fleeing Kenya due to threats as a bisexual man, Mwangi's asylum claim was denied repeatedly, forcing him into making a last-minute appeal to the UN.
