As head coach Bill Belichick pointed out on during his Wednesday morning press conference, the team had tried to keep Cunningham around but ultimately wasn't able to do it.
"He's a great teammate," said fellow QB Bailey Zappe on Wednesday. "Of course, I was upset that he's not going to be here with us anymore, but I was also excited that he was getting an opportunity somewhere else. [H]e signed up to the 53, so that's a great opportunity for him."
